New Seeds: The Thomas Merton Centre is sponsoring a series of addresses by distinguished Canadians exploring through their own personal lens the challenges and singular features of the life of the spirit in contemporary Canada, leading up to the 150th anniversary of Canada in 2017. Through her portraiture, Brooke Anderson has been invited to collaborate on this exciting project.
Thomas Merton has been described as “an axial figure who bridges, within his own experience and work, the contemporary estrangements between religious and secular perspectives”.
The Thomas Merton Centre, created just this year, seeks to honour this iconic spiritual figure and to carry on the work that he began, by building bridges of greater understanding and compassion amongst the spiritual traditions of the world’s religions.
The Centre will also probe the depths of wisdom inherent in the great contemplative tradi- tions, to offer our contemporary leaders, who are active in world and business affairs, with a renewed path of leadership based on the spiritual principles of self transformation leading to a more compassionate and spiritually enhanced society.
